The Bestiary Collection

NEON BERLIN’s flagship collection and product family Bestiary is extended constantly and over the last years established itself as a relevant and quite idiosyncratic contribution to the world of 3D-eyewear. It consists of a wide range of shapes and styles, all of them united by a unique design-DNA; as the title suggests, all fauna on earth goes back to joint identical building blocks in the genome. The nucleus of all the work is the lens, all decisions are subjected to the idea of a simple glazing process for the optician.

Rather than following common design practices such as extruding and projecting 2D-shapes on 3-Dimensional spherical entities, the means of generating a form for the Bestiary range are explicitly different. Drawing inspiration from architecture and origami, Bestiary’s faceted surfaces deliver a unique aesthetic while being astonishingly lightweight yet robust.

By introducing the concept of shared properties and identical components we created a unique platform with interchangeable parts in various sizes and colors, enabling the optician to adjust and even customize the glasses. A powerful algorithmic workflow is at the core of the digital creation process.
